Suraj de Silva is a Chartered Structural Engineer with over twenty years of experience in the construction industry. He has worked on and led structural teams across a broad spectrum of civil and structural engineering projects. From architecturally driven buildings, to heavy civil works. These have included residential buildings, educational and research facilities, commercial and retail developments, concert halls and theatres, airports, underground metro stations, major infrastructure projects, and offshore oil platforms. He is also experienced in the forensic investigation of civil and structural engineering problems. Suraj has advised on matters relating to structural failures and defects, movement and damage, heave and subsidence, water ingress, excessive deflections and vibration issues. Additionally he has opined on cost overruns due to variations, design errors and workmanship issues.

He is regularly instructed as an expert, advising lawyers, engineers, contractors, insurers, developers and building owners on a wide range of disputes including high-value international arbitrations. Suraj de Silva has addressed design, materials and workmanship problems in structures including residential buildings, commercial and retail developments. His instructions have also included underground structures, airports, ports, bridges, museums, petrochemical facilities and waste & recycling facilities. This work has involved attending expert meetings, preparing joint statements, giving oral evidence and preparing expert reports for exchange in adjudications, international arbitrations and court proceedings.
