Cracking during construction
Residential Property – UK
This project involved the inspection and analysis of a temporary multi-propped sheet pile retaining wall, which was installed to support an excavation for the construction an apartment block. During excavation, extensive cracking was noted to an adjacent property.
WJM&P were engaged by solicitors acting for the insurers of the Piling Subcontractor to investigate the causes of cracking to the adjacent property. We carried out a detailed inspection of the sheet pile wall, reviewed the available ground investigation information, and carried out soil-structure interaction analysis which involved geotechnical and structural computer modelling of the sheet pile wall and the propping system. Our investigation aimed to determine the cause of cracking and the roles of the parties involved.
