
Ioannis Barmpopoulos
Geotechnical Engineering
Ioannis is a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 20 years of experience in the construction industry. He has worked for both contractors and consultants on a wide variety of large geotechnical engineering projects in the transportation and maritime sectors within the United Kingdom and overseas, including countries of high seismicity. He has led roles in the design of underground stations, maritime structures and railway infrastructure.
Ioannis’ experience covers the design and construction of heavy civil engineering works and ground engineering applications, including ground investigations, earthworks, shallow and deep foundations, ground improvement, earth retaining structures, embankments and slopes.
Ioannis is regularly instructed as a geotechnical engineering Expert. He has advised lawyers, engineers, contractors, insurers, developers and building owners on a wide range of disputes, at all stages. Ioannis has addressed design, materials, and workmanship problems in structures including airports, ports, bridges, railways, roads, basements, residential buildings, commercial and retail developments. This work has involved attending Expert meetings, preparing joint statements, giving evidence, and preparing Expert reports for exchange in adjudications, international arbitrations and court proceedings.
