Flooding
Dams – Ireland
This project involved the release of water from two dams in southern Ireland, which resulted in the flooding of properties downstream.
WJM&P were engaged as civil engineering experts by the electrical supply company’s legal department to advise on engineering matters relating to the flooding. In particular, we were asked to consider whether the buildings affected had been designed properly to resist the effects of flooding. Our investigation included a review of historic and modern guidance on flood protection and how that guidance had been applied to the affected buildings.
We prepared an expert report and the dispute was resolved at trial in the High Court in Dublin, at which we acted as the civil and structural engineering expert witness.
