Steel and concrete design issues
Mixed-use Development – Azerbaijan
This project involved the design and construction of a series of steel and reinforced concrete mixed-use towers in Azerbaijan. The development included an offshore element built on reclaimed land. The client terminated the designer’s contract, which led to a dispute about the extent of completion of the design, and the adequacy of certain aspects of the design.
WJM&P were engaged by the designer to provide independent advice and report on the level of completion of the architectural and structural designs. Our investigation included a review of the relevant contract documents and an analysis of the level of completion of the architectural and structural designs at various stages. We also addressed certain claims regarding the adequacy of the seismic design of the reinforced concrete structures.
The dispute was decided via arbitration, at which we gave evidence as the structural engineering expert witness.
